CHARLOTTE, N.C. –The women's golf team played its final round at the United States Women's Invitational this afternoon, finishing in eighth place with a team score of 320-319-326—965.
Lauren Shuford led the pack for the second consecutive day, firing an 80 to bring her total to 234 for the tournament. Shuford's three scores were good enough for her to finish 12th overall among individuals.
Clare Connolly finished four strokes behind Shuford, shooting an 82 in the final round to put her total at 238. Finishing in the Lions' third spot was Lauren Petty with an 83 in the third round. Petty's total for the tournament was 79-83-83—245. Heather Petronis came in three strokes behind Petty—shaving four strokes off of her second round score with an 81 in the final round. Alyssa Barrett rounded out the group with a 92 in Tuesday's third round of action.
As a team the Lions finished seven strokes behind seventh place Midwestern State and 12 strokes behind sixth place Flagler.
Winning the U.S. Women's Invite by one stroke was Florida Tech, who rallied in its final round to jump up ahead of Florida Southern—who held the lead going into today.
The Lions get back in action this coming weekend at the Sunshine State Conference Tournament. The tournament, being held right next door at Lake Jovita, gets started with the practice round on Saturday.
