Women's Golf Finishes in 12th at C&F Bank Invitational
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. –The Saint Leo women's golf team completed the final round of the shortened C&F Bank Intercollegiate in 12th place with a team score of 641. After yesterday's second round was rained out, the Lions finished the 36-hole tournament with a total score of 318-322—641.
"We all agree that we left some strokes out there," assistant coach Goeun Lee said after the tournament. "Overall, I am proud of every single one of them who fought hard. We will keep strengthening out game for the next tournament hosted by Belmont Abbey."
Carding the best final round score was Lauren Shuford who continued her high level of play by shooting a 73. Shuford finished the tournament with a card of 78-73—151 and tied for eighth place on the individual leaderboard. Shuford holed four birdies for the tournament--tied for the third most in the field.
Coming in two strokes behind Shuford was Lauren petty who fired a 78 in the final round after shooting the team-low in the opening round with 75. Petty's tournament total of 153 ranks 15th among individuals. Petty tied for the third most pars in the tournament with 23.
Clare Connelly showed improvement—shaving four strokes off of her opening round score by firing a 77 in the final round. Rounding out the Lions' fourth spot was Heather Petronis with a final round score of 94. Alyssa Barrett came in two strokes behind Petronis with a 96.
The Lions finished in a tie for 12th place with Columbia and seven strokes out of 11th place Winthrop. Winning the tournament with a 598 team total was Boston College, who edged out second place Richmond who tallied a solid score of 609.
The women's golf team gets back in action on April 8th at the Belmont Abbey Invitational in Charlotte, N.C.
