Women's Golf Heads into Second Round of C&F Bank Invitational in Ninth Place

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. –The Saint Leo women's golf team finished up the first round of the C&F Bank Invitational on Sunday afternoon in ninth place with a team score of 319. The teams battled heavy doses of wind, cold rain, and even sleet, but were able to finish up the entire first round of the tournament.

"I am extremely proud of the girls for battling through this brutal weather," Assistant Coach Goeun Lee said after the round. "We went out to the course with a great attitude and spirit, and tomorrow we will do it again. We need to battle hard, but most importantly, have fun."

Lauren Petty shot the low-round for the team with a 75. Petty's round, which included 13 pars (tied for second most in the field) was strong enough to put her sixth on the individual leaderboard after the opening round. Next for the Lions was Lauren Shuford who fired a 78 in her opening round with holing two birdies. Three strokes behind her was Clare Connolly with an 81, and registering an 85 was Alyssa Barrett. Rounding out the Lions was Heather Petronis with a 91.

The Lions are currently in a three-way tie for third place with William & Mary and St. John's. The Lions are just five strokes out of eighth place Delaware and six strokes out of sixth place Yale.

Leading the field of 28 teams is Boston College—who fired a 302 in today's opening round.

The Lions get right back in action tomorrow morning for the second round of the tournament at Kingsmill Resort-River Course.
