Women's Golf Falls to Ninth After Day 2 of NCAA Fall Preview
DAYTONA, Fla. – After day two of the NCAA Fall Preview, the Saint Leo women's golf team fell to ninth place after shooting a 319 at the Legends Golf Course at LPGA International Golf Club in Daytona, Fla. The Lions sit 20 strokes behind first-place Lynn, yet only eight strokes out of second place Barry. The Lions are one stroke behind Dallas Baptist University and Newberry College, who are currently tied for eighth place.
"Today was disappointing," said head coach Erika Brennan. "We struggled around the greens as a whole and we made some mental mistakes, as well. We worked out the kinks post-round, and we are optimistic heading into the final round. The scores are so bunched together that it's still wide open for us to move up significantly. The focus tomorrow is to execute around the greens and to play with confidence."
Lauren Petty led all Lions on the day as she carded a 77 in only her second round for the Green and Gold. Not far behind was Clare Connolly, who fired a 79 and currently sits in 10th place overall. Ragna Olafsdottir shaved five strokes off her first round score, carding an 80 in the second round. Laura Huertas and Heather Petronis rounded out the Lions scorecard as both shot an 83 for the day.
The Lions get back in action tomorrow morning in the final round of the tournament.
