Brennan Adds Shuford, Petty to 2012-13 Women’s Golf Team

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo University head women's golf coach Erika Brennan has announced the signing of Lauren Shuford and Lauren Petty to National Letters of Intent as they will join the Lions' squad in the fall of 2012.

"I am delighted that Lauren and Lauren both chose Saint Leo to continue their collegiate playing careers," said Brennan. "Both their personalities are a great match for Saint Leo, and I look forward to them making an immediate impact on our program."

Shuford is a local talent courtesy of Hernando County, while Petty comes to the Lions via Baldwinsville, NY.

Shuford is a junior college transfer from Seminole State College in Sanford, Fla. While attending SSC, the incoming Biology major enjoyed a successful pair of seasons including a 2011-12 campaign which saw her average a 78 during the spring. She finished-out her career at Seminole State by guiding her team to a runner-up finish at the 2012 NJCAA National Championships, as well as a ninth-place individual finish (82-77-74-76 –309). Her efforts on the course allowed Shuford to earn All-America Second Team accolades.

Prior too, Shuford dominated the local golf scene at Hernando High School. Voted the school's Athlete of the Year, she was a three-time conference Most Valuable Player selectee and a three-time regional qualifier. Additionally, she was tabbed a Suncoast All-District team member and accumulated a 37-5 overall match record.

Petty, coming to Saint Leo as a business major, compiled numerous accolades during her four-year stint at CW Baker High School in New York, as well as her one year spell at Hofstra University. The incoming sophomore participated in 10 tournaments as a freshman for the Pride including four top-ten finishes (ECAC Championship, Richmond Invitational, Rutgers Invitational, and the Monmouth Invitational). Petty finished the fall and spring seasons with a 79 average and received Colonial Athletic Association Golfers of the Week honors on Oct. 19.

A 2011 graduate of CW Baker High School, Petty was named the NYS High School Girls Golf Champion in 2011, NYS Section 3 Girls Golf Champion in 2011, All-League Girls Golf for three years, and varsity golf team MVP for four consecutive years. Petty was a six-time member of the varsity golf team and was a six-time NYSPHSAA Scholar Athlete.

Shuford, Petty and the Lions will kick-off the fall portion of their season on Monday, September 17 at the NCAA Fall Preview from the LPGA International Golf Club in Daytona, Fla.
