Lions Sit Sixth after Opening Two Rounds of SSC Women’s Golf Championship
BRADENTON, Fla. - Anchored by Heather Petronis in fifth place on the individual standings, the Saint Leo women's golf team sits sixth after the first two rounds of action in the 2012 Florida Blue Sunshine State Conference Women's Golf Championship. The tournament will conclude with 18 holes on Tuesday at The Concession in Bradenton, Fla.
Petronis rebounded after a 10-over 82 opening round to card an even par on the second time out, firing a 10-over 154 on the first day at the 5909-yard, par 72 course. Petronis sits tied in fifth with Nova Southeastern's Lilliana Camisa (78-76), and the two are just two strokes back from first place.
Lynn placed four golfers in the top ten to build their nine-stroke lead, posting a score of 310-306—616. Florida Southern is second in the team standings with a 36-hole tally of 627 (311-316). Nova Southeastern is third with a 634 (326-308). Rollins sits in the fourth spot with a 650 (328-322), while Barry rounds out the top five with a total of 652 (329-323).
Irene Calvo sits in a three-way tie for first with a two-round tally of 152 (78-74). Samantha Smolen is fourth, just one stroke back, with a 153 (78-75). Thalia Baigorria (78-78) and Jessica Bradley (77-79) are tied for eighth after carding scores of 156.
Florida Southern's M.J. Audette (76-76) and Barry's Paola Grand (74-78) are tied with Calvo atop the leaderboard with a score of 152.
