Women’s Golf in 11th After Two Rounds at Lady Moc Invitational
LAKELAND, Fla. – The eighth-ranked Saint Leo women's golf team teed-off in their Spring opener at the Lady Moc Invitational, Monday at the par 72, 6255-yard Eaglebrook course in Lakeland. The Lions finished the two-round first day in 11th, with a score of 64-over 640.
After earning a 26-over 314 in the first round, the Lions took a hit in round two, carding a 38-over 326 in the afternoon and dropping from seventh to 11th in the team standings.
Seminole State leads the pack with a 37-over 613, followed by Florida Southern with a 43-over 619, and Lynn University who posted a 44-over 620. Florida Tech's Rachel Polson holds onto the top spot after two rounds after carding a three-over 147.
Goeun Lee and Clare Connolly both hold onto a team best 16-over 160 after two rounds. The duo each fired a six-over 78 in the first round, before carding a 10-over 82 in the second to finish 38th in the individual standings.
Sophomore Heather Petronis led the way for the Lions after the opening round, but relinquished the top spot in the afternoon. The Northfield, N.J. native fired a five-over 77 in the morning before falling back seven strokes for an afternoon total of 12-over 84, to finish the first day in fourth on the team, and 42nd overall.
Laura Huertas rebounded in a big way after opening the day with a nine-over 81. The Bogota, Colombia native improved seven strokes to fire a two-over 74, vaulting her from 42nd to 20th in the standings with a two round total of 11-over 155.
Ragna Olafsdottir recorded a nine-over 81 in round one before improving by one stroke in the second round for an eight-over 80, and currently sits in 42nd with Petronis on the individual board.
Tricia Maloney rounds out the squad with a 21-over 165. Maloney fired an 11-over 83 in the opening round, but improved one stroke in the afternoon for a 10-over 82.
