ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Teeing off in their final tournament of the 2011 fall season, the seventh-ranked Saint Leo women's golf team finished day one of the Flagler Fall Slam in ninth place, posting a 40-over 328, Monday afternoon at the Par 72, 6,062 yard course at the Marsh Creek Country Club in St. Augustine, Fla.
The Lions finished ninth out of a 20 team field, with Lynn University claiming the No. 1 spot thanks to Samantha Smolen and Jessica Bradley who ended the day one outing with impressive individual scores, placing first and second, respectively.
Clare Connolly leads the way for the Green and Gold after carding an opening day six-over 78, placing her in a tie for 11th place overall.
Goeun Lee concluded the day three strokes behind Connolly, firing a nine-over 81 and earning a tie for 23rd on the board. Heather Petronis, who took the individual title at last year's Fall Slam, ended the afternoon with a 10-over 82, positioning her in a tie at 31st.
Coming in at fourth on the team was Ragna Olafsdottir, who carded a 15-over 87. Laura Huertas rounded out the Saint Leo squad, bringing home a 17-over 89 after her first day on the course.
