SAINT LEO, Fla. – After their successful run into the NCAA Postseason, the Saint Leo women’s golf team finished their 2010 season ranked in the top 15 of both national polls, including finishing 10th in the last Golfstat rankings of the season. The Lions also finished 15th in the Golf World/NGCA Women’s Coaches Poll released earlier in May.
A program not quite a decade old, the Lions saw their most successful season in history, with a 5th place finish in the Sunshine State Conference Tournament and a bid to the NCAA South Region Tournament. Competing in the field of nine teams in North Carolina, the Lions finished sixth in the tournament field as well.
Outside of the final two tournaments, the Lions have finished in the top-seven of all the tournaments they have competed in during the spring season, including back-to-back fifth place finishes to start the championship portion. They finished the pre-tournament portion of their schedule with a seventh place result in the MSU Spring Invitational which features some of the country’s top talent, across all division of collegiate golf.
Graduated senior Anna Riss finishes ranked in the top-20 of players in Division II. The German finds her name in the top-10 in nearly every statistical category that Golfstat tracks, including fairways hits, greens in regulation and total short game.
