Dade City, Fla. (October 30, 2006) – The Saint Leo University women’s golf team finished in 3rd place after day one of the Saint Leo Fall Invitational.  The event was held on the Par-72, 5827-yard North Course layout at Lake Jovita Country Club on Monday.


Saint Leo shot a team total of 329 to finish ahead of SSC foe Florida Tech (337) after day 1.  The Lions were led by Angela Sparagowski (So., Sylvania, Ohio) who is tied for 7th (78) and Meghan Costello (So., Emerson, N.J.) who is tied for 10th (80) individually after 18 holes of the 36-hole event.

No. 2 ranked Lynn University leads the event after posting a team score of 303.  They are followed by No. 6 ranked Barry University with a team score of 312.  Saint Leo University rounds out the top three with a team score of 329.

Lynn’s Katy McNicoll holds the 18-hole lead with a 72 in her opening round.  She is joined in the top three by Florida Tech’s Daniela Jacobelli (73), and Barry’s Johanna Soderstrom (75).

The Saint Leo women’s golf team will return to action when it opens its spring season at the Sixth Annual Lady Moc Classic hosted by Florida Southern February 25-27 in Lakeland, Fla.
