Women's basketball add three to 2017-18 roster

SAINT  LEO, Fla. - The Saint Leo women's basketball team and head coach Anthony Crocitto announce the addition of Alani Gallagher, Savannah Scott, and Dashaun Jackson to the 2017-18 roster.

Gallagher, a 6-foot-1 center, comes to Saint Leo from Vestal High in Vestal, N.Y.

In her junior season, Gallagher averaged 13.1 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 3.7 blocks per game. In her senior season, the center improved her numbers to 15.2 points, 10.8 rebounds and 3.6 blocks per game. Because of those numbers, she was named the BCANY Class A Player of the Year following her senior season. She also earned All-Conference honors in both her junior and senior seasons. Off the court, Gallagher has earned a place on the Vestal High's Honor Roll.

"Alani Gallagher is a wonderful kid from a wonderful family and much respected AAU program, BNY Select," Crocitto said. "At 6-foot-1, Alani can run the floor with the best of the best. She will immediately help us on the block on both ends of the floor. Alani can score, block shots, make free throws and is a very unselfish player. We are very proud to add one of New York's best high school players"

Scott, a 6-foot-1 power forward, joins the Lions from St. Joseph Catholic College Prep in South Bend, Ind.

Scott was a three-year letterman at St. Joseph's and during that time her team had a 76-6 record, winning multiple conference championships, and she finished her career off with an Indiana Class 3A State Championship in 2017. In the classroom, Scott carries a 3.6 GPA and plans to pursue pre-med curriculum at Saint Leo.

"Savannah Scott is a winner and an exceptional student," state Crocitto. "She won a state title in Indiana and is expected to contribute at the post position in her rookie season. Savannah does a lot of the little things on the court and does them exceptionally good for a long 6-foot-1. Look for Savannah to develop more and more as her college career begins."

Jackson, a 6-foot-1 wing, comes to Saint Leo from a successful Miami Country Day High School program and calls Miramar, Fla., home.

Jackson was part of Miami Country Day's Florida State Championship three-peat, winning the title in 2015, 2016, and 2017. She was also part of two high school National Champion teams, as her squad went on to win the title in 2015 and 2017. In her junior season, she was named Third Team All-County after averaging 7.0 points and 5.0 rebounds. Off the court, she is a three-time Director's List honoree and earned a Community Service award.

"Dashaun Jackson comes from one of the most prestigious high school programs in the country and will play several positions well for us," Crocitto said. "She is super athletic and hungry for a big freshman season here at Saint Leo. Dashaun will haunt our opponents in several ways. She can run the floor very well and jump with anyone. She will contribute right away and fit perfectly in our system."

Jackson, Scott, and Gallagher join Delaney Bernard, a 5-foot-8 shooting guard, Brandi Bain, a 5-foot-9 wing, and Montia Moon, a 5-foot-5 guard, who signed with the Lions during the fall signing period.

"Our first recruiting class is very special. We have brought in kids from a few very different areas while addressing some weaknesses within our program. We have added size with three players being over 6-foot-1, shooting, and big game experience. Our recruits have won or contended for state championships and in New York, Florida, and Colorado - this is not so easy."
