Women's basketball adds three during fall signing period

SAINT  LEO, Fla. - The Saint Leo women's basketball team and head coach Anthony Crocitto announce the addition of Delaney Bernard, Brandi Bain, and Montia Moon to the 2017-18 roster.

Bernard, a 5-foot-8 shooting guard, comes to Saint Leo from Cherry Creek High in Greenwood Village, Colo.

Bernard is a four-year varsity starter and earned First Team All-Conference honors in her freshman, sophomore and junior seasons, and will look to continue that streak into her senior year. Over her first three seasons, she has averaged 13.6 points per game and has made 159 career threes on 35.0-percent shooting. Off the court, she has been named to the CCHS Honor Roll each of her semesters.

"Delaney is a top shooter in the class of 2017," said Crocitto. "We recruit shooters and expect Delaney to have her shot ready upon arrival at Saint Leo.  We want to recruit the best shooters in the nation, From New York to Texas and know we have one here in Delaney.  She is solid in the classroom and will excel on the wing for us as she is a great fit for our system.  Delaney starred for Coach Carl Mattei, one of the best coaches in Colorado, within the Mile High Magic AAU program.  We are excited to add Delaney to our program."

Bain, a 5-foot-9 wing, also hailing from Colorado as she attends and competes for Castle View High in Castle Rock, Colo. She also plays for Mile High Magic and Coach Carl Mattei. She was named to the 2015-16 Honorable Mention Team for the Continental League for her junior season. Off the court, she has earned Academic All-State First Team honors for maintaining a 3.97 GPA. She has also received the Academic Excellence Award from CVHS each of her years there. Bain will also be part of the Honors Program at Saint Leo.

"Brandi is a winner and a 'glue' kid," Crocitto noted. "She has fantastic upside and will succeed on and off the court for us here at Saint Leo. We expect Brandi to compete for playing time as a rookie. Her defense is exceptional, and she plays very unselfish basketball. Brandi is already a solid fundamental player; we expect only growth from her moving forward."

Moon, a 5-foot-5 guard, hails from Long Island, N.Y., where she is a three-sport athlete at Baldwin High. Moon has competed in basketball, soccer, and softball all through high school. She has been named a team captain for three years for both softball and basketball, and a two-year captain for her soccer team. She has helped her basketball team to three straight conference titles and has helped them earn three Nassau County Championships as well. Off the court, she has participated in the leadership program, Athletes Helping Athletes, and has helped with the Special Olympics.

"Montia is a work-horse athlete, and a welcome addition to our family," Crocitto said of the addition from his home state. "Montia plays for one of the best high school programs in New York and is certainly well-coached.  She can defend just about anyone at the guard position, and is a strong, quick blue-collar point guard who will give us more depth."

Moon, Bain, and Bernard are the first signees for the 2017-18 season for Crocitto.
