Saint Leo Women’s Basketball Advances to First Ever NCAA Tournament
Lions will face Rollins in the first round on March 14 at Nova Southeastern
SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo University women's basketball team, which is in the midst of its best season ever, added another chapter to its program's history on Sunday night when they learned that they had earned its first-ever bid to the NCAA Tournament which begins this week.
The Lions, who are currently 20-9 on the year, earned the No. 6 seed in the South Region and will face Sunshine State Conference foe Rollins on March 14 Nova Southeastern University. The Tars are 24-6 this season and seeded No. 3. Game times have yet to be announced.
Saint Leo and Rollins split its two games played this year with the Lions winning in Winter Park, 66-57, on Dec. 7. The Tars defeated the Lions, 86-76, on Feb 1 at the Marion Bowman Activities Center.
Rollins most recently lost to Nova Southeastern, 80-70, in the SSC tournament semifinals on March 8.
Joining Saint Leo and Rollins are: the host Sharks (No. 1 seed), Tampa (No. 2 seed), Delta State (No. 4 seed), Albany State (No. 5 seed), West Florida (No. 7 seed) and Benedict (No. 8 seed).
