Manigrasso’s 30 Points Helps Women’s Basketball Defeat Florida Southern, 82-76

LAKELAND, Fla. – Saint Leo senior guard Teresa Manigrasso was one point shy of matching her career high, pouring in 30 points on the night to help elevate the women's basketball team to an 82-76 victory over Florida Southern.  The win advances the Lions' record to 16-7, and 7-6 in SSC action, tying a program best for conference wins in a season.  With the loss, Florida Southern drops to 7-17, and 2-12 in SSC play.

The Lions were on fire from the charity stripe, making 34-of-36 shots from the line on the night.  Manigrasso shot 10-for-15 from the field, and was 4-for-7 from beyond the arc while making good on all six of her free throws on the evening.  Joining her in double digit scoring was Chachi Guzman and Chelsea Williams.  Guzman drained 8-of-8 shots from the line en route to 15 total points on the night, while Williams added 12 points of her own, 10 of which were made at the free throw line as she made good on all 10 attempts.  Chelsea Connelly grabbed 12 rebounds on the night, including 11 defensive boards, and was one point shy of a double-double with nine.

Florida Southern was led by Christine Strawbridge, who tallied 20 points and seven boards on the night.  Ali Sanders and Mariah Harris earned 17 and 11 points, respectively.

The Mocs were the first to get on the board, scoring off of a jumper by Morgan Lamberg 10 seconds into the contest, but a quick layup by Manigrasso 17 seconds later, followed by a missed shot by the Mocs gave the Lions the green light.  A three by Maigrasso pulled the Lions out to a 5-2 lead which led to a 48-29 advantage by the end of the first half.

The Lions continued to roll through the second half to secure the 82-76 final score, and are one SSC victory away from setting a new program best for conference wins in a season.

The Saint Leo women's basketball team returns to action on Saturday, February 22, when they host Lynn University.  Game time against the Fighting Knights is slated for 2 p.m. in the Marion Bowman Activities Center.
