SAINT LEO, Fla. – In a Saturday afternoon Sunshine State Conference contest against the No. 13 Rollins College Tars, the Saint Leo women's basketball team fell by an 86-76 score. Senior Teresa Manigrasso earned her 1,000th career point in the effort.
Despite heading into the halftime period trailing Rollins 45-43, the first half was an exciting battle. At one point, Rollins led by as much as 14 in the period, but Lions retaliated on defense to walk into halftime trailing 45-43.
With the clock ticking in the second half, the Tars broke away from the Lions for the second time, but the Lions were able to again stop the momentum and capitalize on defense. In spite of the solid offensive and defensive effort, however, the No. 13 Tars walked out of the Bowman Center with an 86-76 SSC victory.
Offensively, senior Teresa Manigrasso led the Lions in scoring for the afternoon, tallying 23 points. She was notched her 1,000th career point in the first half.
Sophomore Chachi Guzman and seniors Chelsea Connelly and Chelsea Williams also contributed heavily on offense. In addition to Guzman's 14 point effort, Connelly and Williams recorded 11 and 10 points, consecutively.
The Lions will return to action on Wednesday, February 5 when they head to Melbourne, Fla. to do battle with the Florida Tech Panthers. Tipoff for the Sunshine State Conference contest is set for 5:00 p.m.
