Lions Upended by Panthers in 2014 Debut

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Just four days into the new year, the Saint Leo Lions fell to the visiting Florida Tech Panthers by a 59-40 score, Saturday afternoon from the Marion Bowman Activities Center. The defeat  signaled the Lions' second-consecutive loss of the 2013-14 season.

The first half began with a 6-point lead in favor of the Panthers, but the Lions' offense quickly gathered themselves. For the remainder of the first period, both teams fought hard, but it was Florida Tech who walked into halftime with a 25-22 lead.

Upon returning from halftime, the Panthers launched an offensive attack that would go unanswered for the remainder of the contest.

In total, the Lions forced 15 Florida Tech turnovers in the contest, while pulling down 50 rebounds. In addition, the squad shot 57.1 percent from the free-throw line.

Offensively, senior Teresa Manigrasso led the Lions in scoring with 11 points. Seniors Keishara Green and Chelsea Connelly followed suit with nine points each, and Chelsea Williams collected seven.

On the defensive side of the game, Connelly notched a team-high ten rebounds.

The Lions squad will return to action on Wednesday, January 8th when they head to the University of Tampa to do battle with the Tampa Spartans. Tipoff for the SSC contest is set for 5:30 p.m.
