LIBURN, Ga. – After a 9-0 start to the 2013-14 season, the Saint Leo women's basketball team has broken into the national spotlight in the latest Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Poll, it was announced Tuesday afternoon. After five weeks of undefeated play, the Lions have received 85 votes, the most of any unranked team. The number of votes situates them just one spot outside of the WBCA Top-25.
The Lions squad is off to their best start in program history with their perfect 9-0 record, and the team recently began Sunshine State Conference play with a win over No. 16 Rollins College. The win against Rollins signaled head coach Nikki Jessee's 100th career win, and the first time that the Lions have beaten a top-ranked team this season. In fact, their last victory over a top-25 team came with a win over No. 15 Tampa during the 2012-13 year.
Earlier this week, Saint Leo women's basketball player Teresa Manigrasso also received SSC Player of the Week honors for her weekly performance against Flagler and Rollins.
The Saint Leo squad will look to continue their undefeated streak on December 20 when they travel to Anchorage, Alaska to play Brevard College in the AT&T Hoops Classic. The contest is set for 5:00 p.m.
