Jessee Adds Two More to 2014-15 Roster

SAINT LEO, Fla. – After adding a key performance player to her roster last week, head women's basketball coach Nikki Jessee announced the signing of two additional players in Mary Redmond and Rachel Harrell.

"These two players fit the type of player we look for here at Saint Leo University," said Jessee. "Both are high IQ players, who can score the basketball in a number of ways, as well as shoot it from the 3-point line and both are quality academic students too."

The freshman pair joins junior LaQuinta Jefferson as the first members of the 2014-15 signing class.

Mary Redmond
5-7, Guard, Freshman
Scarborough, Maine
Scarborough HS

Hailing from Scarborough, Maine, Redmond attended Scarborough High School where she was a four-year letter-winner for both the women's basketball and softball teams. As a junior, Redmond competed with a team that went 19-2 on the year and finished the season as the Western A Runner-Up, while her senior season boasted a 16-4 record and a trip to the Western A semi-finals. In 2013-14, she earned Southwestern Maine Athletics Association (SMAA) All-Conference honors, was selected to the SMAA All-Star Game, and was the All-Star game 3-point contest runner-up.

Jessee's Thoughts: "The first time I saw Mary play at our Elite Camp I was so impressed with her overall toughness and competitiveness that I offered a full scholarship on the spot.  I love the way she competes every single play, every single possession.  She hates losing, and because of that she has become a very good player.  Mary can play the point or 2-guard positions for us at Saint Leo.  She is able to score in a number of ways, whether it's by shooting the three, pulling-up off the dribble, or driving to the basket.  We are excited to have been able to steal Mary away from up North."

Rachel Harrell
5-8, Guard, Freshman
Camilla, Ga.
Westwood School

Raised in Camilla, Ga., Harrell currently attends Westwood School where she has played under head coach Jenni Smith for the past three seasons. During her freshman year, she was named to the All-Conference First Team and by her sophomore season, she had accumulated 1000 career points, earning her a selection to the All-Region Team. During her junior season, in which her team claimed their first state championship in the school's 42 year history, Harrell was named to the All-Region team and was selected as the All-State Region Player of the Year.

Jessee's Thoughts: "Rachel is a phenomenal shooter, who happens to be as tough-nosed as they come.  These are two characteristics that don't usually go together when describing a shooter.  Rachel isn't afraid to get in the lane and rebound with taller players, and is an aggressive player defensively.  We are excited to add another great shooter to our already loaded backcourt.  Rachel will be able to play the 2 and 3-guard positions for us.  Not only is she a very good basketball player, but she is a great student, as well."
