Lions Outlast Tough St. Augustine's Squad, Earn 77-67 Victory

SAINT LEO, Fla. – In their first match of the Saint Leo Classic tournament, the Saint Leo women's basketball team (3-0) upended the St. Augustine's Falcons (0-1) by a 77-67 score. The win signaled the Lions' third-straight win of the season, while marking the Falcons' first loss.

The first half of the contest featured a highly offensive Saint Leo squad, as the Lions strode into halftime with an 18-point lead. Seniors Teresa Manigrasso and Chelsea Williams were in the double-digits in points for the first half alone.

Despite outscoring the Falcons 46-38 in the first half, the St. Augustine offense made a push in the second half to tie the game at 62-62 with just five minutes remaining. However, two made free throws from Williams and a huge three-pointer from Manigrasso gave the Lions the momentum they needed to cruise to a 77-67 victory.

Teresa Manigrasso led the Lions in scoring on the night, sinking 12 shots for 20 points, a season high. In addition, senior Erin Higgins notched a career-high 17 points, and Chelsea Williams added 16 to the scoreboard.

From the free throw line, Higgins shot a perfect 8-for-8, and Williams contributed with an 8-for-9 free throw effort.

Defensively, Williams led the Lions in rebounds, with nine, while senior Keishara Green recorded seven.

The Lions will get back in action tomorrow when they finish the Saint Leo Classic tournament with a game against Webber International University. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m.
