Chelsea Williams Leads Lions to 60-55 Win Against Ursuline

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's basketball team defeated Ursuline College by a score of 60-55 in the second game of the Saint Leo Classic. Behind a career night from Chelsea Williams that included 23 points and 16 rebounds, the Lions were able to put away the Arrows despite a strong second half by the visiting team.

After totaling just nine points and three rebounds in the first half, Williams turned it up a notch in the second half and grabbed 13 boards and dropped in 14 points en route to her fourth double-double of the season. Teresa Manigrasso added 19 points, five rebounds, and four assists. Chelsea Connelly contributed a strong defensive effort with 13 rebounds and three blocks. Kinnara Lewis added 12 points on the night, including going 6-6 from the free throw line.

After trailing 5-2 to start the game the Lions quickly took control of the first half. Manigrasso's 10 points and three assists fueled the Lions' offensive attack as they held a comfortable eight point advantage at the half.

Out of the break the Lions extended the lead to 13 after a Manigrasso three-pointer, but that would mark the biggest lead Saint Leo would hold the rest of the game. The Arrows began chipping away at the lead and after two three-pointers from Laura Campbell and one from Brianna Woods, the Lions' lead was down to four. With 12:57 remaining Dee Erazo tied the game after a turnover by the Lions, and less than a minute later a steal from Autumn Jones led to a layup to give the Arrows their first lead of the second half.

After four straight points from Williams the Lions regained the lead and never looked back. Some long range shooting kept Ursuline in the game, but Williams proved to be too much for the Arrows to handle down low as she continued to dominate the key.

Saint Leo outscored Ursuline 26-20 in the paint, which proved to be the difference in the game. The Lions and Arrows both had 14 points off of turnovers and Saint Leo scored 14 second chance points compared to Ursuline's 13.

Saint Leo gets back in action tomorrow in the second day of the Saint Leo Classic when they take on Trevecca Nazarene at 4:00 p.m.
