WINTER PARK, Fla. - Saint Leo junior forward Chelsea Williams has been named Sunshine State Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week presented by VALIC, it was announced Monday by SSC Commissioner Jay Jones.
The award is the first time a Saint Leo women's basketball player has been selected Player of the Week since Dominique Daniels collected the accolade on November 17, 2008.
Williams led the Lions to a 2-0 weekly mark, including a conference upset victory over No. 17 Nova Southeastern. Despite logging just 45 minutes in both games combined, Williams averaged 22.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 1.5 steals, 1.0 block, and 0.5 assists per game.
Opening the week with a 92-43 win over Warner, Williams tallied 19 points, nine rebounds, two blocks, and a steal. In the 73-69 victory over NSU, she tallied a double-double with a career-high 25 points, 12 rebounds, two steals, and an assist. Williams shot the ball with tremendous accuracy, nailing 83 percent (19-for-23) of her field goal attempts and all six of her free throw attempts.

The Lions will return to action on Monday, December 10 when they travel to Palm Beach Atlantic University. Game time is slated for 6 p.m.
