SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo University women's basketball team (3-1) finished up its Saint Leo Invitational Tournament with a 73-66 victory over the visiting Lindenwood University Lady Lions (1-2) in Saturday night action from the Marion Bowman Activities Center.
All five starters contributed heavily for the Lions offense, with Chelsea Connelly collecting 14 rebounds while Kinara Lewis, Sarah Winans, Teresa Manigrasso, and Chelsea Williams each notched 13, 15, 16, and 15 points, respectively.
The contest began with an early 5-0 lead by the Lindenwood Lady Lions, but three minutes into the first half, junior-transfer Teresa Manigrasso assisted to junior Chelsea Connelly, who scored the Lions' first two points of the game. After four more points, Saint Leo and Lindenwood were tied at six points a piece, but a 3-pointer by Kinara Lewis in the seventh minute put Saint Leo ahead and the Lions never looked back from there.
After heading to the halftime break with a 9-point lead, 35-26, the Lions returned to the court to finish off the Lady Lions as well as the Saint Leo Invitational Tournament. As a team, the Lions collected 38 points and 14 rebounds in the second half, while shooting 66.7 percent from the 3-point line.
For the game, the Lions shot 49.0 percent (24-for-49) from the floor, and collected a 73.3 free throw percentage while forcing 22 Lindenwood turnovers.
The Saint Leo Lions will return to the court on Wednesday, Nov. 21 when they take on Palm Beach Atlantic University from the Marion Bowman Activities Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
