SAINT LEO, Fla. – Seeking its first Sunshine State Conference victory, the Saint Leo women's basketball team travels to Melbourne, Fla. to take on the Florida Tech Panthers, Saturday afternoon from the campuses' Clemente Center. Tip-off for Saturday's tilt is set for 2 p.m.
The Lions, who are trying to snap a six-game losing streak, look to upend a Panthers' squad who is 0-3 in the conference. The Lions are led by Chelsea Williams and her 12.4 points-per-game average. In addition to Williams, Saint Leo also possesses four other players who are averaging over five points-per-game.
On the boards, Chelsea Connelly continues to be one of the best in the conference as her 14-rebound effort against Tampa pushed her up to 8.7 rebounds-per-game.
Overall, the Lions are surrendering just 54 points-per-game, but are scoring at a subdued 53 points-per-game clip. However, the Lions are out-rebounding their opponents by a seven rebound-per-game margin.
Like Saint Leo, Florida Tech (9-4) has yet to achieve their first conference win of the year having dropped contests to Eckerd, Florida Southern, and Nova Southeastern. In response to their losses, however, the Panthers have strung together four, three, and two-game winning streaks.
Ashton McClairen leads the club with 13.8 points-per-game, but it is the dominant work of Briauna Hagins who has been the most complete player averaging a double-double (10.1 pts., 11.8 rebs.) in 13 starts.
The Panthers are pouring in nearly 70 points-per-game, and hold a 10 rebound-per-game margin over their opponents.
