Lions Forward Honored by Conference
SAINT LEO, Fla. – Lions' freshman forward Chelsea Williams became the first Saint Leo women's basketball player since 2004 to be named to the Sunshine State Conference All-Freshman team, it was announced Thursday by SSC Commissioner Jay Jones.
Williams had a solid first season for the Green & Gold as she finished the 2010-11 campaign third on the team in scoring at 10.9 points-per-game. In addition, the West Palm Beach, Fla. native also finished the year second in total rebounds (162) and tied for first in blocks with 16.
Competing in all 27 games for Saint Leo, Williams concluded the season shooting nearly 46 percent from the floor and was one of only two players to connect on 100 field goals.
In the league, Williams finished fourth in offensive rebounding while her yearend field goal percentage saw her finish just outside the top ten.
Joining Williams on the squad was Rollins' Sarah Blackburn, Florida Southern's Taylor Maldonado, Lindsey Watson from Tampa, and Nova Southeastern's Jasmine Wilkins.
Voting for the All-SSC team was conducted among the league's women's basketball coaches and sports information directors.
