SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo women’s basketball team has been seeded sixth in the upcoming 2009-10 Sunshine State Conference Tournament, it was announced by SSC Commissioner Jay Jones Saturday evening. 

On tap for the Green & Gold is a rematch with Saturday’s challenger, Barry University. Tip-off for the contest is set for Wednesday, March 3 at 7:00 p.m. from the Health and Sports Center on the campus of Barry.

The Lions finished their conference schedule with a 6-10 mark, tying Florida Tech for 6th in the SSC. However, because of the season sweep over the Panthers, the Lions were slotted as the higher seed.

Saint Leo is 0-2 against the Buccaneers this season, with both losses coming by a combined five points. Barry earned the No. 3 seed with a 10-6 conference record.

The winner is scheduled to take on the No. 2/No.7 winner from the Don Taft University Center on the Nova Southeastern campus. 

2010 BlueCross and BlueShield of Florida Sunshine State Conference Women's Basketball Championship will tip-off with quarterfinal games on Wednesday, March 3. Nova Southeastern will host the semifinals and finals on Saturday, March 6 and Sunday, March 7.

Tampa earned the top seed in the tournament, finishing the regular season with a 14-2 conference record and a 24-3 overall mark. The Spartans will host No. 8 Nova Southeastern (11-16). The Sharks and Eckerd both presented a 4-12 SSC record, but NSU earned the final tournament slot by sweeping the Tritons in the teams' regular-season meetings.

Rollins (19-8) posted an 11-5 SSC mark to lock up the second seed. The Tars will entertain No. 7 Florida Tech (14-13) in quarterfinal action.

The final quarterfinal host will be No. 4 Florida Southern (19-8), which concluded the regular-season conference schedule with a 9-7 record. The Moccasins will face off with No. 5 Lynn (16-10) on Wednesday. The Fighting Knights wrapped up the SSC schedule with an 8-8 record.

Quarterfinal winners will advance to Saturday's semifinals, which will be contested at the Don Taft University Center on the campus of Nova Southeastern University. The winner of the Barry/Saint Leo game will take on the Rollins/Florida Tech winner at 5 p.m. The Tampa/Nova Southeastern winner will then square off with the Florida Southern/Lynn winner at 7:30 p.m.

Saturday's semifinal winners will vie for the tournament title on Sunday at 3:30 p.m
