SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo women’s basketball team and Head Coach Chanita Olds announced their 2009-10 regular season schedule, Tuesday morning. The Green & Gold will hit the road for 16 contests, while playing at the friendly confines of the Bowman Center just 11 times in their tough 27 game schedule.

After concluding their exhibition season against the University of Central Florida, the women will open regular season action with a tough contest against Division-I opponent Stetson on November 17th.

Shortly after that clash, the squad will host its annual Sleep Inn Classic on November 20th and 21st. Joining Saint Leo in this year’s edition of the Classic will be Sunshine State Conference foe Florida Southern, as well as the University of Puerto Rico-Bayamon and Gulf South Conference opponent Georgia SouthWestern.

In keeping with the early-season tournament theme, the Eckerd College Thanksgiving Classic is next up for the Green & Gold as they take on the University of Montevallo and again face Puerto Rico-Bayamon on November 27th and 28th in St. Petersburg, Fla.

With a week-off under their belts, the squad will travel to Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. to take on Nova Southeastern to open Sunshine State Conference play on December 5th. Following a trip to Americus, Ga. to again face Georgia SouthWestern, the Lions will travel to Florida Southern and compete in the FSC Classic. During the December 19th and 20th tournament, challengers from both North Georgia College and The College of Saint Rose await Saint Leo.

A non-conference game is on-tap during the Christmas Break as SLU will travel to Jacksonville, Fla. on December 30th to take on Edward Waters College.

Four consecutive SSC tilt’s are on deck for the Lions in early January, as they open the 2010 year at home against Lynn. A Trip to SSC Tournament Champions the University of Tampa is in line on January 6 before heading to Melbourne. Fla. to match-up with Florida Tech. The Lions will close out the stretch at home against Florida Southern before heading to Valdosta, Ga. to face non-conference oppoenent Valdosta State on January 16th.

SLU will play six straight SSC games to end January, including making road trips to Rollins, Barry, and Lynn while hosting Eckerd, Nova Southeastern, and Florida Tech at the Marion Bowman Activities Center.

From there, the Blazers from Valdosta State visit the sunshine state, as they travel to Saint Leo to close out the Lions’ non-conference schedule on February 13th. It will mark the second time in under a month the two teams will play.

On February 17, SLU will venture to Lakeland, Fla. to take on SSC foe Florida Southern. After a home SSC contest against Rollins on February, 20, the Lions will put on their traveling shoes one final time in regular season action as they again visit St. Petersburg to take on Eckerd.  The Green & Gold will close out their 2009-10 regular season with a contest against Barry on February 20th. The SSC tilt also marks senior night for Saint Leo, as the squad will bid farewell to four players.
