Lakewood, Colo. (November 23, 2007) – The Saint Leo University women’s basketball team (3-1) fell 64-54 to Colorado Christian University (1-6) at the 2007 CCU Thanksgiving Classic in Lakewood, Colo. on Friday night.
Amanda Holloway (Sr., West Palm Beach, Fla.) scored in double figures for the fourth straight game, and led the Lions with 12 points. Latasha Lawrence (Sr., Jacksonville, Fla.) and Dominique Daniels (So., Columbus, Ohio) added 11 points each in defeat for the Lions.
CCU’s Talmai Aguirre led all players with 20 points in the game, while Cougar forward Sara Davis grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.
Saint Leo trailed from the start and saw the Cougars build a lead as large as 29 points in the opening half. The Lions eventually trailed 44-20 at the half.
In the second half, Saint Leo used an 11-0 run to close to within 16 points with 11:04 remaining in the contest. The Lions then put together a 10-0 run and made it an eight-point game with 1:04 left. However, Aguirre went 4-of-4 at the free throw line in the closing stages to wrap up the win for the home team.
Saint Leo will conclude its road trip to Colorado on Saturday with a game versus the University of Missouri-Rolla. Opening tip is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. ET.
