Saint Leo, Fla. (November 17, 2007) – The Saint Leo University women’s basketball team (2-0) upended visiting Puerto Rico-Bayamon (0-1) by a score of 69-59 on Saturday to finish as the only undefeated team at the 2007 Sleep Inn Classic.

Dominique Daniels (So., Columbus, Ohio) and Latasha Lawrence (Sr., Jacksonville, Fla.) scored 13 points apiece to lead the Lions to the win.  Daniels also grabbed seven rebounds.  Amanda Holloway (Sr., West Palm Beach, Fla.) joined Lawrence on the All-Classic Team, as she scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds off the bench.

The game was close throughout with neither team leading by more than 13 points.  The Cowgirls got off to a fast start, as they opened up a 13-4 lead in the opening eight minutes of the game.  However, Saint Leo eventually took an 11-point lead into the half-time locker room courtesy of an 17-6 run in the final seven minutes of the opening stanza.

Bayamon battled back in the second half and tied the score at 44-44 with 12:31 left in the game.  The visitors took a brief 52-50 lead, but the Lions answered with a 7-0 run and then scored the final five points of the game to wrap up the victory.

Saint Leo will host the University of Puerto Rico-Cayey on Monday in its next contest.  Opening tip for the game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at the Bowman Center.
