Boca Raton, Fla. (February 28, 2007) – Junior forward Marquita Fenn (Ft. Pierce, Fla.) scored a game-high 19 points, but the Saint Leo women’s basketball team (6-22) had its season ended with a 52-44 loss to ninth seed Eckerd College (7-21) in the SSC Tournament opening round on Wednesday.

Fenn was the only Lion player to score in double figures, while Eckerd had three players score 12 points apiece to help the Tritons advance to the SSC Tournament Quarterfinals against top seeded Rollins College tomorrow at 5:00 p.m.  Eckerd’s Gabby Gattuso registered a double-double, as she added a game-high 11 rebounds to her 12-point effort.

Eckerd led from the outset, as the Tritons scored the opening six points and never looked back.  The lead grew to 10 inside the opening six minutes and Eckerd eventually led by a game-high 19 points in the opening half.  The Tritons took a 15-point lead into the half-time locker room.

In the second half the Lions battled back and chipped away at the difference, eventually cutting the lead to four with 40-seconds remaining.  However, the Tritons scored the final four points to seal the win and advance to tomorrow’s quarterfinals.
