Saint Leo, Fla. (January 24, 2007) – The Saint Leo women's basketball team (4-13, 2-5 SSC) knocked off the visiting Florida Southern College Moccasins (6-12, 1-6 SSC) by a score of 71-61 in a Sunshine State Conference game Wednesday night at the Bowman Center.

Four Saint Leo players scored in double figures to help the Lions end a three-game losing streak.  Amanda Holloway (Jr., West Palm Beach, Fla.) led the way with 19 points, while Marquita Fenn (Jr., Ft. Pierce, Fla.) added 12 points and both Chemeka Amos (Sr., Zephyrhills, Fla.) and Latasha Lawrence (Jr., Jacksonville, Fla.) netted 10 points in the win.

After Holloway opened the scoring, Florida Southern went on a 16-4 run to open up a 10-point advantage just six-minutes into the contest.  The lead stayed with the Mocs until Saint Leo scored 21 of the half’s final 27 points capped off by a three-pointer from Holloway at the buzzer to take a five-point lead at the break.

The game remained close with the Lions holding only a six-point lead during much of the early part of the second half.  Florida Southern closed to within four with 2:40 left, but SLU closed with a 5-1 run to win by 10.

Saint Leo will return to the hardwood on Saturday when Lynn University visits the Bowman Center for another SSC doubleheader.  Opening tip for the women’s game is set for 2:00 p.m.
