Miami Shores, Fla. (January 20, 2007) – The Saint Leo women’s basketball team (3-13, 1-5 SSC) fell 56-44 at Barry University (9-6, 5-1 SSC) on Saturday afternoon in a Sunshine State Conference game.
The Lions were led by Marquita Fenn (Jr., Ft. Pierce, Fla.) who scored a game-high tying 12 points and pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds for a double-double. Ariel Walker (Sr., Lake City, Fla.) added 10 points in defeat for Saint Leo.
Meanwhile, Barry guard Princess Bailey scored 14 points and Alex Fernander added 12 points for the hosts.
Barry led from the outset, as they took control from the opening tip. The lead grew to as many as 15 points in the opening half and the Bucs took a 13-point advantage into the locker room.
Saint Leo was unable to get any closer than 12 points in the second half, as the final margin was the closest the Lions would get down the stretch. The lead ballooned to a game-high 19 at one point in the half.
Saint Leo returns to action on Wednesday with a home game against Florida Southern College. Opening tip is slated for 5:30 p.m. and will be the first game of a doubleheader.
