Winter Park, Fla. (January 17, 2007) – The Saint Leo women’s basketball team (3-12, 1-4 SSC) fell 56-48 to Rollins College (13-2, 5-0 SSC) at the Warden Arena in Winter Park, Fla. on Wednesday night.

Saint Leo was led by junior guard Amanda Holloway (West Palm Beach, Fla.) who scored 12 points and also grabbed a team-high tying seven rebounds.  Ariel Walker (Sr., Lake City, Fla.) added 11 points in defeat for the Lions.

Larissa McDonough led all scorers in the game and was just one rebound shy of a double-double with 17 points and a game-high nine boards.

Saint Leo scored the opening nine points of the game to race to an early lead.  However, Rollins scored 21 of the next 27 points to open a six-point advantage with 7:29 left in the opening frame.  The teams exchanged runs of 6-0 and 7-0 before the Tars eventually went into half-time with a 32-28 lead.

Both teams struggled from the field at the start of the second half, but Rollins used an 8-0 run to open its largest lead at 48-35 with 8:01 left in the game.  Saint Leo could get no closer than the final margin of eight points down the stretch.

The Lions will return to action on Saturday when they head south to Miami Shores, Fla. for a Sunshine State Conference game at Barry University.  The women’s game will be the second half of a doubleheader and will tip off at 4:00 p.m.
