SAINT LEO, Fla. – Kicking off their 2010 spring schedule, the Saint Leo volleyball team will get their first taste of competition without their graduated seniors as they travel to Pasco County’s west coast to face Eckerd College, Wayne State (Neb.) and Pasco Hernando Community in an informal tri-match that will be hosted at PHCC’s Physical Fitness Center on its New Port Richey campus.
The Lions, playing without All-America setter Michelle Nogueras and Chelsea Armer will test a new lineup tonight for the first time. Midyear addition Erica Davis will join the Lions’ lineup as freshman Meghan Donovan, Lucy Fricker and setter Alexa Reed will begin to see more court time.
In a best-of-3 format, the Lions will face Eckerd College at 6:30 p.m. After about an hour, they will take on host Pasco-Hernando and then finish the night’s events against Wayne State from Wayne, Nebraska.
Finishing the fall ranked 10th in the AVCA, tonight’s competition will be anything but easy for SLU. Eckerd advanced to the NCAA regional semifinals before being eliminated by eventual regional champion Tampa. Wayne State finished 18th in the nation in Division II and lost to eventual national champion Concordia-St. Paul to conclude their year.
The Lions will get things underway at 6:30 p.m. in New Port Richey.
