SAINT LEO, Fla. – In their final regular-season home match of this memorable 2009 season, the 12th-ranked Saint Leo volleyball team got back to their winning ways with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-20) triumph over visiting Eckerd College on Saturday evening in Sunshine State Conference action from the Bowman Center.

After honoring their three departing seniors, Brittany Fuhr, Chelsea Armer and Michelle Nogueras, the Lions came out and dropped down 45 kills on the visitors from St. Petersburg as they hit .200 for the match. The win marked the 100th for the three senior in their Saint Leo careers.

As indicative of their similar final scores, all three sets had the same pace of play with the Lions and Tritons battling out the first few points.  Each set saw the Lions get at least two service aces and the blocking of their front row made the difference as the Lions managed to pull out to comfortable leads toward the ends of the sets.

The senior Nogueras, along with Emily Calderon-Reyes and Kaitlin McKenna all notched 11 kills in the win.

The three Lions with double-digit kills were match by three SLU players in double-digit digs with Bruna Rocha leading the way with 15.  Armer and Calderon-Reyes also grabbed 10, which marked another double-double for the junior outside.

Nogueras also racked up another double-double with her 29 set-assists.

Defensively, the Lions out-blocked Eckerd 10-to-7.5 as junior Leah Perry posted a solo block and assisted on five others.  Teammate Danielle Bletso added another solo stuff and had four block assists.

The Lions hit the road for their final two games of the 2009 season when they travel to Florida Southern on Wednesday night for a 7:00 p.m. match with the Moccasins and then wrap things up with a Saturday match against Nova Southeastern, in Ft. Lauderdale, that will get underway at 4:00 p.m.
