BOCA RATON, Fla. – After Friday night’s five-set test, today was more treats than tricks as the 13th-ranked Saint Leo volleyball team came out focused and took care of business, handing host Lynn University a 3-0 (25-20, 25-14, 25-23) Halloween defeat on Saturday afternoon in spooky Sunshine State Conference action from the de Hoernle Center.

The Lions won their 22nd-straight match behind another stellar defensive performance from senior libero Chelsea Armer and sophomore middle-blocker Danielle Bletso who had a hand in four blocks in the match.

Saint Leo (25-2, 12-0 SSC) won the first and second sets after getting the Fighting Knights stuck in a rotation where the Lions managed to rattle off eight and seven points respectively before Lynn (18-9, 5-7 SSC) was able to get a side-out.  Both times, the Fighting Knights couldn’t handle the serve of junior Bruna Rocha, who managed two aces and set the Lions up to take a commanding lead in both sets.

Set three was where the hosts would make their best attempt to push the game further as they erased a three point deficit to take a one-point lead into the final serves of the set.

Needing a break, and with the score knotted at 23, Armer slotted an ace off the LU back line that put the Lions in position to claim the match.  That was followed by a long rally for the final point as the ball crossed the net seven times before junior Kim Nuckols set Bletso for the match’s final point.

In the match, Bletso hit .529 behind nine kills with no errors while junior Emily Calderon-Reyes led the team with 12 kills, 11 digs and a .357 hitting percentage, posting her eighth double-double of the 2009 season.

Senior setter Michelle Nogueras narrowly missed a double-double behind 28 set-assists and nine digs.  She also added six kills in the win.

The Lions will now have three days to prepare for a Sunshine State Conference showdown with No. 8 Tampa.  The Spartans will travel to the Bowman Center on Wednesday as the match is scheduled to get underway at 7:00 p.m.
