SAINT LEO, Fla. – The 16th-ranked Saint Leo volleyball team, playing less than 24 hours after their win over SSC foe Nova Southeastern, posted a 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-22) sweep of Bentley University in a Sunday afternoon non-conference tilt from the Marion Bowman Activities Center.

After the tough conference competition over the last two weeks, the Lions still did not managed to look past the visiting Falcons.  Hitting greater than .200 for the three sets, the Lions’ starting seven breezed through the first two games before the Saint Leo coaching staff sprinkled the starting lineup for the third set with bench personnel.

Despite the inexperienced lineup playing in an intense setting, the Lions still showed good resolve as they rallied from a couple deficits to regain the lead.  Ultimately, the newcomers gave way to veteran experience in the final points, as senior Michelle Nogueras as well juniors Kaitlin McKenna and Bruna Rocha scored the matches final four points from SLU attacks.

With 13 players taking the floor for the Lions through the course of the match, kills were spread evenly amongst the team, but McKenna still managed to break into double-digits with 12, behind a .550 hitting percentage.  The Farmington Hills, Mich. native also assisted on seven blocks as Saint Leo dropped down 10 blocks as a team.

Emily Calderon-Reyes, seeing limited playing time, still managed to lead the team in digs with 12 and Rocha as well as senior Chelsea Armer added 10 each.

Nogueras assisted on 30 successful attacks, notching eight digs and five kills in the victory.

The Lions will now look toward nearly a week of rest before they will host the 24th-ranked University of West Florida.  An unusual game time start is scheduled for Friday as the Lions and Argonauts will get things underway at 11:00 a.m. in the Bowman Center.
