SAINT LEO, Fla. – After helping lead her squad to a 2-0 weekly record, Saint Leo volleyball player Kaitlin McKenna was named the Sunshine State Conference’s Offensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive time; it was announced by new SSC Commissioner Jay Jones on Monday afternoon.
The junior middle blocker helped propel the Lions to a pair of important conference and region victories over Rollins and Florida Tech last week. In a three-set sweep of the Tars, McKenna hammered down 14 kills and totaled a .478 attack percentage. Against Florida Tech, the Farmington Hills, Mich. native struck for 16 more kills and led the squad hitting at a .462. She was also responsible four total blocks in the defeat of the Panthers.
In total, McKenna averaged 4.3 kills per game and hit a mighty .469 over the seven-game span. This is the third SSC Player of the Week award received by a Saint Leo student-athlete in 2009-10.
McKenna was also selected as the SLU female athlete for the week for the second consecutive time on Monday morning along with first-time member Ruud Van Der Sar from the men’s soccer team.
Another big week is on tap for Saint Leo fall sport teams as men’s and women’s soccer, as well as volleyball, have multiple home contests. Men’s soccer (3-2, 0-0 SSC) will host Flagler College on Wednesday before a Sunshine State Conference match at home against a very tough Rollins team on Saturday evening.
Women’s soccer (2-0-1, 1-0 SSC) will start this week’s slate of events hosting their first SSC tilt of 2009 against Rollins on Wednesday night before a non-conference match with Clearwater Christian on Friday evening.
