PENSACOLA, Fla. – Remembering last year’s five-set defeat, the Saint Leo volleyball team made easy work of Arkansas Tech as they defeated the Golden Sun 3-0 (25-14, 25-15, 25-16) in their first Friday match of the 2009 South Region Crossover Tournament hosted by the University of West Florida.

Holding their opponents from Russellville, Arkansas to a -.009 attack percentage, SLU blistered the tape early, making easy work of Tech in the first two sets.  The Lions came out stale in set three and found themselves trailing 9-5.  After a timeout by the Saint Leo coaching staff Danielle Bletso and Michelle Nogueras would toe the service line and combine to hand the Lions nine of the next 11 points to give them a 14-11 lead.

After gaining the lead, SLU would outscore Arkansas Tech 2-to-1 throughout the remainder including four straight points during the rotation which put sophomore Corey Ryan at the service line.

The great serves in set three combined with clutch defensive digs by junior Bruna Rocha helped the Lions concrete the win.

Leading the Lions were sophomore Danielle Bletso with 12 kills followed closely by junior Emily Calderon-Reyes with 10.  Calderon-Reyes posted a double-double as she was also a defensive threat with 11 digs.  She was one of three Lions with double-digit digs as Nogueras and Rocha added 11 and 15 digs as well.

Bletso also took the honor of the matches highest attack percentage as her 12 kills in 15 attempts with just one error gave her a .667 hitting average.

The Lions get a few hours of rest before facing the host Argonauts at 8:00 p.m. EDT on the main court of the UWF Fieldhouse.
