FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Saint Leo University volleyball team (18-5, 2-4 SSC) fell 3-1 to the  Nova Southeastern University Sharks (13-5, 3-2 SSC) by the scores of 20-25, 26-28, 25-22, 20-25, Saturday afternoon at the University Center in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

Jenna Jordan continued her outstanding play, finishing off 16 kills and contributing 15 digs with the double-double. Michelle Nogueras also had a double-double with 27 assists and 15 digs of her own. Danielle Bletso hit .273 with her five kills and Chelsea Armer dug out nine balls on the afternoon.

The First set belonged to the Sharks, as they controlled the pace of the set right from the beginning. The Sharks registered 18 team kills and outhit the Lions .333 to .286.

The second set featured ten ties and two lead changes. SLU once again featured themselves in a set that went passed the regulation 25 points needed to win, and were able to force match-point after match-point. The Lions couldn’t keep up with the Sharks attack though, dropping the set 26-28.

Led by Jordan, the Lions secured a third set victory, relying on her five kill set performance coupled with seven total attack errors by the Sharks. The Lions had their best offensive set of the night in the second set, hitting an impressive .308 compared to just .205 for the Sharks.

Saint Leo, once again tried to push a second consecutive match to a fifth-set. The Lions came up short in their effort though. The SLU defense held NSU to a .121 hitting percentage but, racked up a match low -.138 attack percentage themselves in the loss. The two teams were tied at 19 when NSU rattled off six of the next seven points, wrapping up the victory.

The Lions were outhit .157 to .209 on the day, while committing 19 total errors, nine of which were service errors. The Sharks also committed 15 service errors, but were able to combat it with 12 service aces. Each team measured 7.0 blocks in the match. NSU also posted 21 more digs than the Lions.

The Lions continue road SSC action, as they travel to No. 6 Florida Southern next Tuesday, October 7, for a 7:00 p.m. showdown. The match can be heard live through the Saint Leo Athletics AudioCast Network.
