SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo University junior setter Michelle Nogueras has been named the Sunshine State Conference’s Volleyball Player of the Week it was announced on Monday afternoon.

Nogueras, who had an unbelievable week for the Lions as they went 5-0 overall with a conference win and four regional victories to help push the 25th-ranked Lions to 17-3.  Nogueras averaged 2.2 kills, 8.9 assists, 3.1 digs, and 0.5 aces and blocks per set. She posted a solid .452 hitting percentage and concluded the week with a pair of triple-doubles against Alabama-Huntsville and Valdosta State.

In a four-set win over UAH, the Cayey, Puerto Rico native tallied 10 kills, 35 assists, and 10 digs. In just three sets versus VSU, she notched 12 kills, 29 assists, and 11 digs. Nogueras' play at setter helped the Lions record an impressive .302 team hitting percentage on the week.

So far in 2008, she is the first player listed on the American Volleyball Coaches Association’s website to have consecutive triple-doubles.

Nogueras and the Lions look to use the momentum gained from this undefeated week as they head back into Sunshine State Conference play with a home game against Rollins College on Tuesday night and a weekend road series against Lynn University and Nova Southeastern University.  The Lynn match will get underway on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. and the NSU contest will start Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.  All matches will be carried on the Saint Leo Athletics AudioCast Network on SaintLeoLions.com.
