Saint Leo, Fla. (October 20, 2007) – The Saint Leo University volleyball team (23-8, 5-5 SSC) won a pair of matches at the 2007 Saint Leo Invitational on Saturday, establishing a new program record for wins in a single season. The pair of victories also gave Saint Leo eight wins in its last nine matches.
The Lions opened the day with their record-setting 22nd victory of the season over Henderson State. The Lions defeated the Lady Reddies in four games: 30-27, 29-31, 30-19 and 30-23. Saint Leo then increased its win total with its third straight win overall, as the Lions swept Northwood (30-15, 30-26, 31-29)
Chelsea Armer (So., San Jose, Calif.), Kaitlin McKenna (Fr., Farmington Hills, Mich.) and Audrey Starkebaum (Jr., Haxtun, Colo.) all registered double-digit kills in the win over Henderson State, while Michelle Nogueras (So., Cayey, Puerto Rico) added 46 assists, 18 digs and seven kills in the win.
Natalie Gaudreau (Fr., Venice, Fla.) led Saint Leo with 10 kills in the second half of the day’s action, as all 13 available players saw action in the match. Nogueras added 35 assists, 10 digs and seven kills for the Lions.
Saint Leo will return to action on Friday, October 26 when Rollins College visits the Bowman Center for a Sunshine State Conference match. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
