Saint Leo, Fla. (September 26, 2006) – The Saint Leo University volleyball team (11-4, 2-2 SSC) defeated Florida Tech (2-15, 0-5 SSC) in three games in a Sunshine State Conference match Tuesday night. Saint Leo swept the games by the scores of 30-25, 30-28, and 30-24.
Saint Leo was paced by freshman outside hitter Chelsea Armer (San Jose, Calif.) who tallied a match-high 12 kills and a .222 hitting percentage, and junior middle blocker Rachel Taylor (Palmetto, Fla.) who contributed with a hitting percentage of .240 and 9 kills. For Florida Tech, senior outside hitter Jessica Metzger led the way with 10 kills.
Saint Leo hit .161 as a team for the match, while Florida Tech hit .159. The Lions faced a 14-10 deficit in game three before storming back to gain the lead at 22-21. The Lions then rattled off 8 of the next 11 points to claim the match and pull to 2-2 in SSC play.
Saint Leo will remain at home on Wednesday night for the re-scheduled conference match against Eckerd College (7:00 p.m.).
