Miami Shores, Fla. (September 24, 2006) – The Saint Leo University volleyball team (10-4, 1-2 SSC) was swept by the Barry University Buccaneers (8-5, 3-3 SSC) in a Sunshine State Conference match played Sunday at Barry’s Health and Sports Center.  The Bucs ended the Lions’ five-match winning streak with game scores of 30-24, 30-17, 30-25.

Saint Leo was once again led by freshman outside hitter Chelsea Armer (San Jose, Calif.) who totaled a match-high 13 kills.  However, Barry’s duo of Nicole Castera (12 kills) and Samara de Freitas (10 kills) was too much.

Barry hit .362 as a team for the match, while Saint Leo hit .046.  The Bucs scored eight of the final 10 points in the opening game and then scored the first seven points of the second game to sweep past the Lions and even their conference record.

Saint Leo will finally play its home opener on Tuesday night at the Marion Bowman Activities Center, as the Lions will host Florida Tech in another SSC match.  Saint Leo will remain at home on Wednesday night for the re-scheduled match against Eckerd College (7:00 p.m.).
