Waltham, Mass. (September 16, 2006) – The Saint Leo University volleyball team (9-3) swept through the Bentley College Invitational this weekend, winning all four matches and finishing as co-champion along with West Texas State.

The Lions swept both the University of Massachusetts-Lowell (30-22, 30-13, 30-27) and the University of New Haven (30-24, 36-34, 30-25) on Friday before a sweep of host Bentley College (30-27, 30-19, 30-24) in their first match on Saturday.

Saint Leo then completed its perfect weekend by winning a five-game thriller against Dowling College (30-25, 21-30, 14-30, 30-21, 15-9) in the final match.  The Lions erased a 2-1 deficit in the final match to post their second consecutive perfect record in a tournament following a 4-0 mark at the Valdosta State Azalea Classic earlier this season.

SLU freshman outside hitter Chelsea Armer (San Jose, Calif.) was named Co-Most Valuable Player of the tournament.  Sophomore Audrey Starkebaum (Sterling, Colo.) also earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team.

Saint Leo’s volleyball team will return to Sunshine State Conference play on Tuesday, September 19 when it will travel to St. Petersburg, Fla. to face Eckerd College.  The match will begin at 7:00 p.m.
