Ft. Myers, Fla. (September 5, 2006) – The Saint Leo University volleyball team (5-2) was swept 3-0 on the road Tuesday night by the No. 19 ranked Florida Gulf Coast University Eagles at Alico Arena in Ft. Myers, Fla.

The Eagles snapped the Lions five-match winning streak with game scores of 30-14, 30-15 and 30-19.  Gulf Coast improved to 5-2 with its third straight win, hitting a season-best .412 as a team.

Saint Leo was led by sophomore outside hitter Audrey Starkebaum (Sterling, Colo.) who registered eight kills while Emily Frey (So., Mason, Ohio) added seven kills.  Freshman setter Michelle Nogueras (Cayey, Puerto Rico) contributed 19 assists.

The Lions were unable to overcome double-digit kill performances by FGCU’s Ericka Fonseca (17 kills) and Brooke Youngquist (15 kills).

Saint Leo has a week off before its next contest, as it will face the No. 1 ranked University of Tampa Spartans in the Lions’ Sunshine State Conference opener in Tampa, Fla. on Tuesday, September 12 at 7:00 p.m.
