Valdosta, Ga. (September 2, 2006) – The Saint Leo University volleyball team finished as the only undefeated team among six schools who competed in the Valdosta State University Azalea Classic Thursday through Saturday. The Lions won their fourth and final match Saturday morning, defeating Coker College in straight games by the scores of 30-24, 30-23, 30-20.
The Lions have now won five straight and stand 5-1 on the season, heading into a south region match on the road Tuesday night against No. 16 Florida Gulf Coast University.
Saint Leo displayed its depth against Coker, which is now 2-4, as middle blocker Emily Frey (So., Mason, Ohio), and right side hitter Alex Farmer (Sr., Fort Myers, Fla.) turned in their top performances of the season.
Frey had a .400 attack percentage and 10 kills, while Farmer chipped in with seven kills and a .312 attack percentage.
Other standout performances included setter Michelle Nogueras (Fr., Cayey, Puerto Rico), and outside hitters Audrey Starkebaum (So., Sterling, Colo.) and Erin Oberlin (Sr., Naples, Fla.).
Nogueras had 33 assists, 13 digs and a .333 attack percentage. Starkebaum had 14 kills and a .324 attack percentage and Oberlin eight digs and eight kills.
The Lions had a .281 team attack percentage during the match, including hitting .500 in the third game.
