Saint Leo, Fla. (November 8, 2006) – Saint Leo University volleyball players Audrey Starkebaum (So., Sterling, Colo.) and Amanda Cook (So., Royal Palm Beach, Fla.) were named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Third Team on Wednesday.

The pair earned the honor for the first time after helping the Lions (21-10, 8-8 SSC) to one of the most successful seasons in the program’s history.  Saint Leo earned its first-ever bid to the NCAA Regional Tournament, and set a new program record for single-season wins with 21.

Starkebaum set a new single-season program record for total attempts, as she had 1,122 and finished the year with a team-high 428 kills (3.75 k/g).  The sophomore outside hitter registered double-digit kills in all but four matches, and totaled eight double-doubles during the regular season.

Cook had a pair of 30-dig performances during the regular season and totaled 427 digs overall (3.99 d/g).  Her defensive play helped the Lions limit opponents to a .183 hitting percentage during the 31-match regular season.

Saint Leo will face No. 9 Florida Southern College tomorrow in the opening round of play in the NCAA Division II South Regional.  The match will begin at noon at the University of Tampa’s Bob Martinez Sports Center, and will be broadcast live on the Internet via the Saint Leo Athletics Audiocast Network.
