Boca Raton, Fla. (October 6, 2006) – The Saint Leo University volleyball team (14-5, 5-3 SSC) swept the Lynn University Fighting Knights (8-8, 3-4 SSC) in a Sunshine State Conference match played at Lynn’s de Hoernle Center Friday night. The Lions won their ninth match in the last 11 by game scores of 30-28, 30-18 and 33-31.
Saint Leo freshman setter Michelle Nogueras (Cayey, Puerto Rico) was all over the floor for the Lions, as she was just four digs shy of recording a triple-double with 10 kills, 34 assists and six digs on the night. Freshman outside hitter Chelsea Armer registered her fifth straight double-double with game-highs in kills (16) and digs (19).
The match was close throughout, as both games one and three were see-saw battles. However, the Lions took control of the match in game two by cruising to a 12-point victory. The final game saw Lynn serve to force a fourth game leading 31-30 but the Lions claimed the final three points to secure their fifth sweep of the season.
Saint Leo returns home for a pair of matches tomorrow at the Bowman Center, as the Lions will face the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez at 3:00 p.m. and Kutztown University at 7:00 p.m. Kutztown and Mayaguez will face each other in the first match of the tripleheader at 1:00 p.m.
