NFCA RELEASE

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Saint Leo senior, Stephanie Adkins was named to the Schutt Sports/National Fastpitch Coaches Association top 25 National Player of the Year list, announced Thursday afternoon by the NFCA.

Adkins, a 2016 NFCA Third Team All-American, stands at 19-6 on the year in 30 appearances. Adkins has tossed 16 complete games and picked up two saves in 156.1 innings of work. While in the circle for the Green and Gold, Adkins has racked up 149 strikeouts this season and averages 6.67 'K's' per seven innings heading into the Lions' final regular season series.

In just her second season with the Lions, Adkins, who is the lone representative from the Sunshine State Conference, is a two-time selection for the Schutt Sports/NFCA National Player of the Year after reaching the top 25 list in 2016 as well.

Adkins joins an elite group on the list of 25 and is one of 10 pitchers to be named to the list, including reigning National Player of the Year, Lyndsay Butler (Wayne State). The top 25 lists has one graduate student, 10 seniors, 11 juniors, two sophomores and one freshman. These top 25 finalists will be narrowed down as the top 10 finalist will be announced on May 11, with the top three on May 17. The 2017 Schutt Sports/NFCA Division II National Player of the Year revealed on Tuesday, May 24 prior to the start of the 2017 NCAA Division II National Championships.

Adkins and the No. 14 Lions welcome in Rollins for the first game of their final series at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 27 to University Softball Stadium.
