Softball’s opening game at Florida Tech postponed due to weather

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The first game of the Sunshine State Conference series between the No. 5 Saint Leo Lions and the Florida Tech Panthers was postponed due to inclement weather on Tuesday, April 4.

The Lions and Panthers started play Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. where Saint Leo got two runners on with two outs before rain and lightning put a halt to their play. The game headed into a delay where both teams left the field before consistent weather caused the coaches and umpires to agree to play this game on Thursday, April 6 at 12:00 p.m, tentatively.

The doubleheader on Wednesday, April 5 is set to be played as scheduled but moved ahead to an 11 a.m. start time, rather than the scheduled 1 and 3 split.

Kacie Kelly started things off in the top of the first with an infield single. Rachael Heath attempted to move Kelly over before Ciera Schumaker followed her up with a one-out walk. Brittany Creamer was standing at the plate with two outs when time was called due to the incoming weather. When play resumes on Thursday, Creamer will step to the plate with Schumaker at first and Kelly at second with two outs in the top of the first.
